Nepal's shortest man in quest for world record

A man who is only 22 inches (56 centimeters) tall left his home country of Nepal on Sunday in a quest to be recognized as the world's shortest man. Khagendra Thapa Magar is traveling to Europe to campaign for the Guinness World Record title. He applied to London-based group for a place in the record book in October, soon after turning 18, but said he has not received any response.

Mpls. thinks woman's $1,600 water bill is correct

A Minneapolis woman has received a $1,600 water bill, a bill the city believes is accurate even though it's 20 times the woman's usual bill. Erica Kocur said her bill is generally $70 to $80 per month. She said her "heart just dropped" when she got her latest bill. The city said she must have a running toilet or dripping faucet.

Man arrested for arson after bragging about blaze

Salem police said one of the two men accused of setting a fire to an old training center bragged about the blaze to his hairdresser. According to court documents, a 20-year-old man told his hairdresser that he went into an old building on the former Fairview Training Center campus to smoke marijuana, then set the Jan. 27 blaze that destroyed the building. His hairdresser tipped police, who arrested the suspect.

Breckenridge authorities said a Texas Christian University student who suffered burns when his peers branded his buttocks participated in the act willingly and no charges will be filed.

Woman finds unclaimed insurance check from 1978

An 85-year-old South Florida woman who went looking for a photo of her ex-husband says she found a $17,500 insurance claim check from 1978 instead. Barbara Cosgrove found the check, dated Jan. 23, 1978, in an unopened envelope inside a nightstand drawer at her Lauderhill home. She said she doesn't know why she hadn't found the check sooner and had looked inside the drawer "a thousand times" before the discovery.

Police: Man rides on car hood in his underwear

Police expect to file charges against a 57-year-old man who was wearing only underwear in frigid temperatures when he hopped on the hood of his girlfriend's moving car during an argument. Police have yet to identify the man or his 28-year-old girlfriend, saying they'll release the names once they sort out what charges to file.

Cops: Man beaten with high-heel on Valentine's Day

Police arrested two women after a former lover burst into a Waffle House on Valentine's Day and beat a man with her high-heel. Police charged 29-year-old woman and 32-year-old woman with battery and criminal damage to private property following the incident.

Kaiser patients find glass in chicken noodle soup

The state Department of Public Health is investigating an incident at a food supplier kitchen that left glass fragments in a batch of chicken noodle soup. The soup went to several customers of FoodService Partners Inc., including Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Northern California.

Udderly awesome Holstein sets production record

This Holstein is more than just another udder in the herd. The cow from the Ever-Green-View Farm in eastern Wisconsin has set a new national milk production record. A Holstein tagged number 1326 in Waldo has pumped out about 8,400 gallons of milk in one year.
