Father enjoys son's helping hand

Austin Shepard had his hands full getting his horses ready for the Classic Open first go-round Sunday. That's when his 8-year-old son, Cade, stepped into help. Aboard Playin Witha Cat, Austin Shepard marked 215 to add to his earlier 220 and qualify for the finals.
Virginian makes most of first run

The extremely busy Glade Knight flew into town for just two runs in the Augusta Futurity. He made his trip worthwhile after his first one Tuesday afternoon. Knight and Playin N Fancy Smart scored 221 to tie for second place in the Classic Non-Pro first go-round.

Girl pockets victory on keeper

Ricky Pardue said they were looking for a horse last summer. Nicole Sutton said she was just riding horses. No matter what really happened, Sutton found her a mare, a keeper. Sutton continued to spoil Teninos Little Rebel following their winning run in the Area 18 Youth Scholarship finals.
