What began as personal correspondence between two sisters more than a century ago will hopefully end next month, as Channa Carsey brings their letters home to Georgia and hands them over to George Holliman, the closest living descendant of Sallie and Annie Holliman.

Channa, from Enumclaw, Wash., purchased the bundle of letters - dating to the late 1800s, sent between the sisters - at a yard sale last summer, and the March 31 article in The Augusta Chronicle titled "Letter writers' family sought" led to Channa locating Mr. Holliman, living in Warrenton.

This community has been truly touched by the story and wants to help in the effort to bring the letters home. Channa is a full-time nursing student and single mother of three children, so it is obvious that a cross-country trip will be financial difficult.

You can assist Channa by sending contributions to the Warren County Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 27, Warrenton, GA 30828. One-hundred percent of the money collected will be sent to Channa to help her offset the expenses of the trip. Mark your checks "Help bring the letters home."

Rob Pavey, the outdoor editor with The Augusta Chronicle, has promised another article when Channa comes to Georgia to return the letters.
