Delta Air Line's Augusta call center is adding 40 people this month to replace retired workers and add reserves for holiday travel.

The tentative start date for the new employees is Oct. 26, said Delta spokeswoman Leah Lamb.

Delta has a 145-person customer center off River Watch Parkway that primarily handles calls on lost luggage.

Ms. Lamb said applications are being accepted immediately for the openings to its part-time reserves staff.

Representatives of Delta will be at a job fair at Fort Gordon on Tuesday, but applications are also being accepted at Delta's online employment site, delta.com/employment.

"It is called ready reserve. It is a permanent job, but it is part-time," Ms. Lamb said.

"We call them in when we need them."

The Augusta center lost 27 people this year to retirement, and those jobs need to be replenished. The additional employees are also needed for holiday travel.

The facility has been in Augusta since 1999.
