PLAY OF THE GAME: Midland Valley's Tevin Nuckles made a diving tackle on Damone Pringle after a 73-yard reception on the 5-yard line to prevent a touchdown early in the second quarter. Crestwood settled for a field goal to take a 3-2 lead.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Quarterback Marquett Carr returned after missing three games with a shoulder injury to lead the Mustangs (9-2) to victory in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs. He completed 10 of 17 passes for 106 yards and one touchdown to Niko Hatcher , who made a leaping catch and then backed into the end zone.
WHY MIDLAND VALLEY WON: The Mustangs played inspired football. They scored on a safety at the 4:46 mark in third quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Hatcher pitched to Trey Walker , who burst 66 yards for the touchdown.
WHY CRESTWOOD LOST: The Knights (5-6) were hampered by four turnovers. Substitute Alonzo McGee scored the only touchdown on a run in the fourth quarter.
