STROM THURMOND 43, EAU CLAIRE 7

Play of the game: 8:03 remaining in the first quarter, Strom Thurmond converts 4th and 13 at Eau Claire 17-yard line. Next play the Rebels score and deflate any hopes the Shamrocks had of keeping it close.

Player of the game: Desmond Davis. Junior wide receiver stepped up to fill role as quarterback on a week's notice to replace injuried starting qb Raleigh Yeldell. Davis rushed 15 times for 143 yards with two touchdowns. He also went 7-8-81 yards passing with no interceptions.

Why eau claire lost: The Shamrocks were manhandled up front by a stout Rebel defensive line. Eau Claire only managed six first downs, 76 yards on the ground and 52 yards through the air.

Why strom thurmond won: The Blue Steel defense was too much for the Eau Claire spread offense. Rebels picked off three passes and shut down Eau Claire's ground game. Offensively, Thurmond moved the ball at will.

Quotebale: "I was real proud of desmond tonight. Backup quarterbacks don't get many reps in a week of practice. He stepped in and played great tonight." Lee Sawyer, Strom Thurmond head coach on backup quarterback Desmond Davis' performance.

Next: Broome at StromThurmond, Friday, 7:30 p.m..

Eau Claire ends their season 1-10.
