COLUMBIA, S.C. - Devin Downey scored 29 points and had seven rebounds to lead South Carolina to a 67-58 win over LSU on Wednesday night.

The Gamecocks (11-5, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) trailed for most of the game before going on a 17-1 run that started when Lakeem Jackson's putback cut LSU's lead to 49-47 with just under 9 minutes to go.

South Carolina has leaned on Downey since losing two starters early in the season. And the senior again carried his team through.

Downey had nine points during the decisive run, including a driving layup high off the backboard with just under 8 minutes to go, giving the Gamecocks their first lead since early in the first half at 51-49 with 7:55 to go.

LSU (9-7, 0-2) missed six shots and had three turnovers during the stretch, as South Carolina then put the game away with a nine-point burst in 80 seconds that included a layup, a steal and a 3-pointer from Downey.

Storm Warren led LSU with 19 points, but scored just four in the second half. Bo Spencer added 14 points and Tasmin Mitchell chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds.

Brandis Raley-Ross had 12 points for the Gamecocks, while Jackson added eight points and eight rebounds.

More than half of South Carolina's shots were 3-pointers, as they made 34.4 percent (11 of 31) from behind the arc. Downey finished 6-of-12 on 3's.

The Gamecocks once again struggled from the foul line, making just four of 13 free throws. Jackson was 0-for-5, and South Carolina missed all five of its free throws in the second half.

The Tigers led nearly the whole first half, running their offense with precision. Ten of their 12 field goals in the first 20 minutes were layups and they led 35-24 before Downey's 3 at the buzzer cut the halftime lead to eight.

But South Carolina's pressure got to LSU in the second half, forcing 10 turnovers and keeping the Tigers from getting the ball inside.

It was a key win for the Gamecocks, who have a tough stretch upcoming with Vanderbilt at home before heading to Florida and No. 21 Mississippi and then hosting No. 2 Kentucky.

LSU has lost five of six and heads to Florida on Saturday.
