Church sings songs in great country style

Capitol Records artist Eric Church will perform at 8 tonight at the Country Club, 2834 Washington Road. Admission is $20. The nightclub will honor tickets for an Oct. 30 concert that Church had canceled when he aggravated a broken leg.

Church is one of my favorite traditional country rock artists. He vocally delivers a country song the way a great country song should be delivered.

Country music expert Robert K. Oermann in MusicRow Magazine praised Church's current single, Hell on the Heart, off his second Capitol CD, Carolina .

"I have made no secret of my admiration for this artist and his ultra inventive producer (Jay Joyce)," Oermann wrote. "He has at last broken through into the Top 10 with Love Your Love the Most . This chugging, relentless follow-up is even better. The gal in question is 'heaven on the eyes,' but 'hell on the heart.' How cool is that?"

On Friday, he will open for Georgian Jason Aldean at a sold-out show in the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S.C. In order words, you'd better catch him tonight if you want to see him close-up.

BENEFIT FOR DAVEY REEVES: Terri Futreal will present her Steppin' into the Past Legends Show at 8 p.m. Saturday at Elks Lodge 205 at 205 Elkdom Court, off Furys Ferry Road.

Damon Hendrix, Jeff Barnes, Joey Fulghum, Alex Swindle, Aslyn Romeo, Jeff "Jelvis" LaJess, Brandon Bedenbaugh and Charles and Donnie Campbell will be paying tribute to the music of Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, The Blues Brothers and Michael Jackson.

Tickets cost $30. The event benefits 15-year-old Davey Reeves, who is battling cancer for the second time. Call (803) 474-2411.

LADY A SELL-OUTS: Y'all might be getting tired of my writing about the trio Lady Antebellum consisting of Lakeside High graduates Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood and their partner Hillary Scott, but it bears mentioning that the trio sold out two shows March 10-11 at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium in 30 minutes.

The group is up for two Grammy Awards and will perform at the ceremony, which will air at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31, on CBS.
