Jane Kim is not your average high school senior. She is an 18-year-old exchange student from South Korea. Her full Korean name is JaeEun Kim. However, she decided it is too difficult to pronounce in English and goes by Jane.
She came to the U.S. to experience a new culture and learn English. She has been in the U.S. for the past three years, attending Evans High School and Augusta Christian School. She is currently living with the Brandt family, who also have a daughter at Augusta Christian. Jane is involved in Spanish Club and Beta Club at school.
Jane attends Warren Baptist Church and enjoys playing piano, soccer, listening to music and watching movies.
Jane says that the most surprising thing about the U.S. is that teens drive to school.
"I was surprised that high school students drive because I have lived in the city my entire life," she said.
Other differences Jane has found is that students wear makeup to school and how much grease the food contains.
Jane has thought a lot about her future.
"My plan is go to college in U.S. and I want to go to graduate school, possibly. After I graduate, I want to go back to Korea, get a job and live with my family."
